Colored Paper Abstraction #1

“Paper has been a favorite material of mine to make different images. It can take so many shapes and surfaces while being a wonderful receiver of light.

I’m currently working with colored paper to construct a series of architectural and sculptural volumes. The three dimensional feeling and optical confusion of this work reminds me of the work of Piranesi, the 18th Century Italian artist who often invented imaginary topsy turvy Roman scenery in his etchings. I think that the color stripes add a painterly sense that I welcome, as well as another level of retinal confusion.”
