“Paper has been a favorite material of mine to make diverse constructions. It can take so many shapes and surfaces
while being a wonderful receiver of light.
I’m currently working with colored paper to make a series of architectural and sculptural volumes. The three dimensional feeling and optical confusion inherent in this work reminds me of the work of Piranesi, the 18th Century Italian artist who often invented imaginary topsy turvy Roman scenery in his etchings. There is no
doubt that the color stripes here add a painterly sense that I welcome. The optical confusions embedded in reading the stacks was a total surprise.”
