“There is no story, just a sense of time,” says Julian Opie
Julian Opie travels regularly (he has had exhibitions on five continents in the past year alone), loves collecting art himself and is deeply embedded in both researching history and exploring new possibilities. In our new exhibition, equality is central. Depending upon the piece, it may have a small frame, an ornate frame, a wood frame, a metal frame, a custom frame, a standard frame or no frame at all. Working with a full range of information from highly detailed to incredibly simplified and with a breadth of objects such as tapestry, paper silhouette, lenticular, digital animation, ceramics, stretched vinyl, silkscreened panels, and inkjet prints, Julian presents a show that is as much about image making as it is about the images made. Coming from a tradition of sculpture, Julian’s work is about existence – the viewer’s, the subject’s, the object’s, and the context’s.
